The Orchard School | 30 Year Anniversary of The Nature Tree

This Winter Break marks the 30th year that Diana Shellhaas (Orchard's Outdoor Education Coordinator) has worked with students in every grade level to create an Orchard Nature Tree. This is one of our many wonderful traditions involving the Orchard community.

The idea came to Diana when she was teaching outdoor education to her kindergarten students 30 years ago. Orchard has tons of bird feeders that students and staff keep filled throughout the year, but the animals had nothing to eat during the two week Winter Break. This is a way for the animals on our campus to enjoy a special food treat while we are home celebrating with our families.

These pictures are a sample of the hundreds of food pieces that will be placed on the evergreen trees all over our campus. Also, the trees pictured in this post will be planted on our property to create a lasting memory of this tradition.

Fun fact: Every student in the building makes something to put on the Nature Tree!
