Big Night for Orchard Grads at University High School

Last Saturday, both boys’ and girls’ soccer teams at University High School won their first ever Sectional Championship for 1A soccer. The best part is that all of the coaches - and some players - have a connection to The Orchard School! Wes Priest, head coach of the boys, is a former eighth-grade English teacher at Orchard. His assistant coaches are Orchard parents. His team also consists of 2014 Orchard grad, Jerome Schweitzer, along with 2015 grads, Sam Gailey and Coghlin Kumler. Maddy MacAllister, head coach of the girls, graduated from Orchard in 2001—and Rory Priest, assistant coach, graduated in 2006.

After Orchard, Maddy MacAllister attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio and studied Educational Studies. Not only is she head coach of girls’ soccer, she’s also the director of college counseling at University High School. We are happy to hear Maddy’s Orchard experience helped her succeed on and off the field.

“For me, Orchard was the building block that set me up for my future. It helped me learn how to form meaningful relationships with adults and peers that ultimately helped build my confidence. From those meaningful relationships, I was able to learn the importance of work ethic because my teachers were able to push me to be my absolute best in the classroom, on the athletic field, and then in my adult life. In turn, this helped me gain the confidence to go to University, a school that was only one year old when I first started. I'm super grateful that my parents sent me to Orchard and then to University. I am the person I am today because of those two great schools.”
