The Orchard Core: YO-YO RESURRECTION

Written by: John (6th grade)

Yo-Yos are making a comeback.

They are becoming popular at The Orchard School with more and more people playing with Yo-Yos each day. It seems as though Yo-Yo-ing is the most popular in sixth and seventh grade. I interviewed some students about why they think yo-yo-ing has grown in popularity again.

I asked sixth grader Bauer about why Yo-Yos are becoming so popular.

“My friend Tanner got one, then my other friend Rofo got one and they brought them to school,” Bauer said. “So I started it and it was really fun…and the sky is the limit. There are so many tricks you can do and once you know how to do it you can’t quit it because it becomes so fun. And Yo-Yos are expensive, a good starter Yo-Yo is $25.”

After Bauer, I talked to Tanner about what got him into yo-yo-ing. “I got into it when I saw a friend bring one to school,” Tanner said. “I saw the tricks and the limitless possibilities.”

When I asked Gal, I was surprised it wasn't someone in Orchard who got him into it. He said, “I saw people doing on YouTube and loved the new tricks they were coming up with.”

Overall, the comeback of Yo-Yos will provide unlimited possibilities for Orchard's intertwined community.
