Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  
 
In what can seem like extremely challenging times, it may be easy to question whether we have made any progress towards Dr. King’s dream. It can seem as though we take three steps forward and two steps back. And, while that may be true in some respects, we must remember to continue to stand with one another and keep marching on towards justice.  We must not get blinded by contentment. Instead, we must be convicted by truth. Standing in truth can be a lonely place. It takes courage and perseverance. It takes determination and dedication. And, although it can be tiring, frustrating, intimidating, and at times, maddening, we must continue to see Dr. King’s vision as the blueprint for where we aim to be. 
 
Orchard education practices are rooted in the same components of Dr. King’s work, legacy, and mission. We strive to be a community committed to integrity, respect for others, and service, while cultivating the courage to consistently practice each of these characteristics. We also know that there is still work to be done. We are committed to doing this work and to moving forward - together. We hope you will continue to join us as we strive to make Orchard, and our greater communities, look and feel more like the dream Dr. King had for his own children.

At some point throughout the year, all middle school students take an exciting out of town trip. The trips not only have strong curricular connections but offer a chance for students to exercise responsibility, self-control and independence while growing closer with one another. The pictures in this blog post are from the Class of 2020's all-school assembly honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and their class trip to Washington D.C. 



Typically, our eighth graders host an all-school gathering dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. They create an informative and engaging assembly honoring MLK Jr. Because of the pandemic, honoring MLK Jr. will look a little different this year.

Last year, Orchard’s No Place For Hate Club made a rainbow paper chain that was displayed on campus. Written on the chain links were “We the Future” statements that our students hope the world will accomplish.
