Spotlight: Kindergarten Students Perform Child-Centered Plays To Close Study Of Fairy Tales

This is part two of how Orchard kindergarten teachers use fairy tales to enchance academics.

The culminating event for the kindergarten fairy tale unit is a child-centered play performed by each class in the Orchard theater. After reading and comparing a variety of fairy tales, students discussed some of their favorite elements and characters from the various stories that they read. Each class then found creative ways to incorporate these ideas into an original production, complete with costumes, props and sometimes original musical performances.

Curious minds, confident scholars is a main pillar of Orchard’s progressive education. Only at Orchard will you find kindergarten-age students performing plays (that they helped write) in front of hundreds of people.
