Photos: Orchard Middle School Musical | The Lion King
The Orchard School offered this musical as an elective during their first ever Winterm session, which is a two-week intensive mini-semester with 15 elective courses for students to choose from. With titles like Business Leadership, Musical, Debate Team and Japanese Culture to name a few, students will be tasked to go for depth rather than breadth in focused courses of study.
Typically, Orchard seventh graders do a musical. This experience opened the door for students from fifth to eighth grade to work together in a multiage environment. A lot of the stage design (including Pride Rock) and costumes were created by our students.
Overall, the musical is:
• A group project involving students in the “ultimate” team sport. • A vehicle through which students continue to refine artistic disciplinary skills. • An opportunity for students to participate in a complete dramatic work of art from start to finish. • A project which involves student kinesthetically, vocally, emotionally, artistically and creatively. • An opportunity through which students will develop an appreciation for how theater productions are accomplished.
