Q & A: Orchard Graduate's Career Brings Him Back In The Building

We love when grads come back to say hello, stop in for lunch or take a walk down memory lane. It's especially fun when their careers bring them back to the place they've learned all the essentials for success.

Max Eiteljorg '05 works for a staffing company and was providing Orchard with a temporary accountant to assist the finance team until our new employee arrives sometime in January. Max is a very busy and successful young businessman/entrepreneur. We were thrilled to catch up with him and hear about all the amazing things he's doing, and how he keeps his Orchard education close at all times.

What is your job title and where do you work?
Managing Member of Vuzar LLC. We are a gaming company out of Las Vegas. We develop land based and online casino games. We also help entrepreneurs and business by facilitating business relationships.

Staffing Manager for Robert Half’s Accountemps We provide businesses with accounting and finance professionals. I am in charge of Brand Development and Marketing here in Indianapolis.

You can find me flying back and forth from Las Vegas to Indianapolis.

What's your educational history?
I went to Indiana University and got my degree in Public Financial Management and Graduated with Distinction and was named to the Dean’s list.

What type of memories came rushing back when you came through the door a couple weeks ago?
I try to come to Orchard a couple times a year to say hi and bring back some old memories. I especially like to stop by Mr. Thompson’s office to see our Championship basketball trophies and pictures. I remember something and see something new every time I walk in. I remember what Orchard has taught me and how it has been the foundation for much of my life. I am grateful for what Orchard has taught me and realize this on every visit.

In what ways has Orchard’s education specifically helped you get to where you are today?
I went to Orchard for 12 Years and started back when they had nursery school in 1993. My Orchard education was unlike any other you can find. When I went to high school, I would hear my other classmates saying “I wish I went to Orchard.” The social aspect is the best I’ve seen in education. I can talk with anyone about anything and hang out with all types of people. Orchard also taught me to be a problem solver and to think creatively. I use these skills in my work and life every day.

We heard you created a popular game…can you explain?
After I graduated from High School, Park Tudor, I helped develop a casino game that is a variant of Roulette. Instead of one ball, it uses two! Its call Double Ball Roulette. Throughout the startup process, I encountered many obstacles and I was able to overcome them backed by my Orchard education. We had to build projects in school like the Rube Goldberg Machines and the Egg Drop. To be successful, we had to be super creative and think outside the box. We always kept improving on our work and had tons of fun doing so. I’ve kept this thinking up by always looking for ways to get better in my business venture and in my personal life while also having fun. This is the Orchard way!

Any advice for Orchard students heading off to high school next year?
Think about what you want to do in life or goals you want to achieve. Start working toward those goals and dreams by working on them for least 10 minutes every day. By the end of high school you will have devoted at least 250 hours working on living your dreams and achieving your goals. I also recommend playing sports or joining an after school club as a way to make friends and have some fun!
