The Orchard School | Hour of Code in Second Grade

Happy Friday!

Orchard students from preschool to eighth grade participated in an Hour of Code! The Hour of Code is a global movement introducing tens of millions of students worldwide to computer science, inspiring kids to learn more, breaking stereotypes, and leaving them feeling empowered.

While coding is already tied into a lot of our daily work, we love participating in global movements that we feel confident in. As globalization has become an increasingly popular topic, Orchard has always encouraged students to see beyond borders. We bring the world to our students through the Web, through curriculum, through teachers, and through a community of families from more than 50 different home countries and cultures.

Today, second graders started their coding hour off with the Peanut Butter Alien task. One of the teachers has never made a sandwich before, so the students had to tell (code) every single step to reach the end result. This was challenging, inspiring and very funny for our students. After the group successfully completed their task, they used their laptops to join the world by working through coding games.

Who knew it took so many steps to make a PB&J!
