Orchard Graduate Nikhil Jain

Nikhil Jain, who attended The Orchard School from Pre-K through the 8th grade, graduated from Brebeuf High School this past June 2017. Nikhil credits his time at The Orchard School for shaping the path that led him to where he is today. “Looking back on it, in the moment I never realized that every small class even down to 1st and 2nd grade formulated the things I’m interested in today. The tools I was given at a young age, I did not know they would be as strong today.”

It was at The Orchard School that Nikhil became interested in volunteering. Nikhil volunteered to sit on the teen jury for the Reach for Youth Teen Court and learn more about the law and how sentencing works. All students The Orchard School are asked to identify a global problem and to provide a solution to that problem. Nikhil completed his Global Problem Solving project centered on the Invisible Children of Uganda which opened his mind and heart to volunteer at the Exodus Refugee Immigration and The International Center.

Nikhil also shared that “the biggest thing Orchard stresses is the education of a whole student.” He remembers the various traditions of Orchard and fondly remembers the campus tree tapping and making of maple syrup as if it were yesterday. He enjoyed seeing the community come together for a pancake breakfast once the syrup was ready.

Accompanied by some of his 2017 awards including Best Delegate in Indiana at the high school Model UN, the Arion Award for Music in the Brebeuf Orchestra for violin, Varsity Distinction in his speech team and a few scholarships including the Provost Scholarship and one through Asian American Alliance, Nikhil plans to attend Indiana University in the fall and pursue his future in International Studies focusing on Relations and Foreign Policy.
