We are kicking off The Woods We Love, a new series celebrating Orchard’s remnant forest. The Alumni Heritage Association and the Annual Pancake Breakfast support the long-term care of these woods through The Orchard Woods Remnant Forest Protection Initiative.
In this episode, Outdoor Education Coordinator Mrs. P and Orchard parent and Eco Owls Organizer Zach Day introduce what makes the Orchard Woods so special. Through recent research, we learned that Orchard sits on remnant forest land that has never been scraped or plowed and has evolved in place for thousands of years. This type of forest is incredibly rare in Indiana and even more rare on flat land in Marion County.
This series explores why our woods matter, how they support learning and discovery, and what it means to care for a place this unique in ways that are both informative and fun.
