The Position
The Orchard School is seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and student-centered Wellness Teacher for grades 3 through 8. This role involves teaching physical education, health, and wellness classes that support the physical, social-emotional, and cognitive development of students. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of national standards in physical and health education and create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where students develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to lead healthy and active lives.
 
Qualifications and Attributes
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, Kinesiology, or a related field
  • Teaching experience with children in grades 3–8, preferably in a school setting
  • Understanding of and experience with National PE and Health Education Standards (e.g., SHAPE America)
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in physical and health education
  • Ability to teach a wide range of physical activities, fitness concepts, social-emotional wellness, and personal health topics
  • Experience designing inclusive, hands-on, and engaging wellness curriculum for diverse learners
  • Ability to assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative methods
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Proficiency with technology to enhance instruction and learning
  • Commitment to progressive education and experiential learning
  • Flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to grow professionally
  • Desire to actively participate in the broader life of the school, including clubs, events, and community activities
