The Position

The Orchard School seeks a dynamic and collaborative Music Teacher to join our Elementary School faculty. The Music Teacher is responsible for teaching general music to students in the Elementary School and for designing and implementing a developmentally appropriate, inquiry-driven music program that reflects Orchard’s progressive philosophy and commitment to the whole child.
 

Position Responsibilities

  • Teach general music to students in Grades 1–4 using developmentally appropriate curriculum and pedagogy
  • Design and implement a Grades 1–4 music curriculum grounded in theOrff-Schulwerk approach and aligned with the National Standards for Music Education
  • Plan, rehearse, and direct grade-level and Elementary School performances
  • Collaborate with Elementary School teachers to support meaningful curriculum integration
  • Assess student learning and report on grade-level music benchmarks and standards for Grades 1–4 students
  • Communicate clearly and proactively with families, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress and performance schedules
  • Contribute to the life of the school through participation in faculty meetings, professional development, duties, and school events
 
 
Qualifications- The most competitive candidates will possess most or all of the following qualifications and qualities:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience teaching general music at the elementary level
  • Knowledge of the Orff-Schulwerk approach or willingness to pursue training in this methodology
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan, rehearse, and direct performances
  • Deep understanding of how children learn and commitment to differentiated instruction
  • Thoughtful approach to selecting and using music that reflects diverse voices, cultures, and perspectives
  • Collaborative spirit and commitment to supporting a vibrant, inclusive performing arts program
  • Genuine passion for working with young learners in an engaging, supportive, and creative environment
  • Commitment to The Orchard School’s mission and definition of progressive education
