Head of School Blog | "Signs of Unity at Holliday Park"

Dear Orchard Friends and Families,

On Saturday morning while walking in Holliday Park, I happened upon timeless and timely words hewn on rough slabs of Indiana limestone, the beginning of the Preamble to our Constitution:  “WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES, IN ORDER TO FORM A MORE PERFECT UNION...”

As Indianapolis artist Elmer Taflinger captured so well in this installation for the park’s Constitution Mall, at moments when we feel the furthest apart and divided from one another, we must remember what unites us across perspectives and places:  We the people, always striving to live up to the promise of our country’s founding, even, and most especially, when we are the most imperfect.  This is the work that we all share, today and every day.

As we conclude our national election, I am grateful for all that unites us:  as a school, as a community, and as a country.
