Orchard and University High School Come Together to Perform a Collaborative Concert
On Wednesday, November 6th, students in the seventh grade Orchestra performed a collaborative concert with the String Orchestra from University High School of Indiana.
Each group practiced two pieces of music separately then combined the morning before the concert for a joint rehearsal. Middle school students were paired with a high school student who mentored them through the rehearsal. University’s music teacher, Daniel Knox, conducted the pieces, giving Orchard students the opportunity to learn from a different teacher.
The orchestras came together again in the evening to perform a concert in which they each played their own pieces as well as performed together. Orchard students reflected that this experience helped them to grow as musicians and gave them the unique opportunity of connecting with other students outside of the Orchard community who love orchestra as much as they do.
