Head of School Blog "Happy New Year, Orchard Community"

Dr. Sherri Helvie
Dear Families,

Happy New Year!  It was wonderful welcoming our students back to school last week. From Multiage Preschool to Middle School, the first days back have been an opportunity for our students to reconnect with teachers and friends, and to take some extra time to review class routines and get back into the swing of things.  From first graders demonstrating their class jobs for one another (using the art station; putting things away in their lockers), to sixth graders reviewing the week ahead and planning for class projects, basketball practices, and play rehearsals, our students had smiles on their faces and seemed eager to begin the new calendar year with renewed focus and enthusiasm. I’ve included a few photos I captured of what our students were doing around the school during their first week back, as well as what our campus looked like this weekend with the arrival of our first significant snow of the season.

As we turn our thoughts to 2019, I hope you’ll take the time to join members of our Board of Trustees, our Board of Governors, and me for our annual State of the School address on Thursday, January 17th at 6:00 p.m., or alternatively, on Tuesday, January 22nd at 8:00 a.m. The presentations will be held in the school theater, and will last an hour. The State of the School address is an opportunity to learn more about Orchard’s governance structure, finances, and capital campaign, as well as what lies ahead for our program in 2019-2020. I hope to see you there.

Here’s to a happy and healthy 2019: thank you for all that you do to make The Orchard School a warm, welcoming, and joyful community!

Have a wonderful week,
