Earth Day Celebration at Orchard | Drone Video & Photo Album

Nature as Teacher is one of our 9 Promises, so Earth Day is a big deal to our community! Last Friday, students in preschool through 8th grade rotated through 30 outdoor learning activity stations. With titles like Stump Jump, Measure A Maple Tree, Worm Composting and Tower of Tree Cookies, students had an unforgettable day learning with their Special Friends.

Special Friends example: a 4th grader is paired with a preschooler during various learning opportunities throughout the year. This builds a strong foundation for a sense of community, respect and diversity.

After the two hour station rotation, our entire school community came together for an afternoon picnic by the cabin. Some students even helped compost our food and trash to make nutrient rich super soil!

We continued the fun after school hours! Our wonderful Parents’ Association held their Orchard Community Day of Service from 3:30 to 7 PM. Faculty, families and students helped clean up and remove invasive species from our woods. With over 100 people in attendance, it was a huge success. Thank you to all who could make it.

See the pictures below and watch the drone video of our students working in stations all over our 43-acre wooded campus! #onlyatorchard

Orchard would like to thank Diana Shellhaas, Outdoor Education, for coordinating such a unique experience for our children. Diana retires at the end of this school year after 35 years of dedicated service.
