Two Orchard Middle School Students Earn High Praise From Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Mia and Eliot are seventh grade students at Orchard. Their sixth grade social studies teacher, Justin Burris, submitted a writing piece from both of them that they composed last year. The contest only allows students in grades 7-12 to enter their work.

Eliot's piece was originally written as a descriptive paragraph, but it was so poetically written that Mr. Burris opted to enter it as a poem. She received honorable mention. Not bad for a piece that was written by a student younger than the official entry age and as a composition that was not originally designed for the given category.

Mia's piece earned the highest honor (Gold Key) in the Science Fiction/Fantasy category and is currently being judged by a panel in NYC as a possible medalist at the national level.

Awesome work, girls!
