The Orchard School Families Project: Tariq and Yahya Family

What’s your definition of family? Although the dictionary has different definitions of family, the meaning of the word is special to the individual. The Orchard School Families Project was designed by Orchard's Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Lisa Pryor, in collaboration with the Diversity Committee, as a way to build connections and celebrate the families we have in our community. The project is very simple, what does family mean to you? We asked some families to answer very simple and fun questions that explain what makes their family unique. We hope you will take the time to get to learn more about the families that make up our community. After all, we are all a part of the Orchard family!

THE TARIQ AND YAHYA FAMILY:

The Tariq and Yahya family includes Zunera, Yahya, and Ibraheem. This is their first year as an Orchard family! Ibraheem is a member of the Fischer/McDade Kindergarten classroom this year.

For the Tariq and Yahya family, family means “sharing ideas, feelings, and being there for each other and the community around us.” They strive to create a positive difference and a judgment-free environment. Some of their traditions include visiting extended family in the village during holidays in their home country, Pakistan. They also love to have guests over, especially during summer break! The Tariq and Yahya family celebrate two major holidays called Eid. Their favorite Eid holiday is Eid ul Fitr. It comes after a month of fasting in Ramadan and includes eating yummy food and exchanging gifts!

When asked what their favorite family memory is, the Tariq Yahya family shared “when grandparents visit from overseas.” They indicated that what makes the Tariq and Yahya family the Tariq Yahya family is being inclusive and an eagerness to coexist!

The Tariq and Yahya family “loves the Orchard family and feels lucky to be a part of it.”

We love you, too, Tariq and Yahya family. Thank you for being a part of our Orchard community!
