Orchard Teachers Designed Literacy Trainings for Nearly 1000 Indiana Educators

Orchard teachers Jamie Jackson (3rd Grade) and Kristi Harris (Elementary School Learning Support) spent their summer developing a training model for thousands of teachers to effectively use the Orton-Gillingham approach. This technique is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy.

Because of the pandemic, Jamie and Kristi had to adapt their training to accommodate teachers who weren’t able to attend in-person sessions at Warren Township School's 'Walker Career Center'. Hundreds joined virtually on Zoom, which was filmed and operated by 'Walker Career Center' students who were interested in video production skills. A win-win!

Speaking of win-wins, Jamie was able to incorporate Orchard throughout the process. She recruited fourth-grade teachers Kim Starlin and Jenny Fite to assist as coaches in a few of the breakout rooms. 🦉 🦉

This training is currently every other Saturday and this week is the second session. It's also free and available to people in small towns and cities all over Indiana who never may have been able to get this training.
