Sixth Graders at Orchard Create Whimsical Self-Portraits With Masks On and Masks Off

As a get-to-know-you activity in art, sixth-grade students in Gail Emerich's art class created whimsical foldable masked self-portraits that, when unfolded, revealed their unmasked faces. Art elements considered included shape, form, space, color, and texture. Students further described themselves with words and other images.

An emphasis on necessary facial features and concepts of overlap, detail, proportion, and exaggeration, especially when creating cartoon-like images, were explored.

Shout out to popular art teacher/social media influencer Cassie Stephens for the awesome ideas!

Enjoy the smiling faces below!
