Photo Album: Orchard's Middle School Musical Provides Many Hands-On Experiences for Students

The Orchard School offered the musical “Seussical Jr.” as an elective during the 2020 Winterm mini-semester, which is a two-week intensive with more than a dozen elective courses for students to choose from.

This #OrchardWinterm course was much more than just performing on stage. Middle school students (5th-8th grade) created costumes and did their own make-up, they acted and sang, ran lights and sound, and even built incredible set pieces and props in the new #OrchardMakerspace

With the help of Makerspace coordinator Scott Weaver, students completely transformed the Orchard Theatre. Everything you see in the pictures below was made by students at Orchard. From the giant stage with lights to the tiny helicopter, and from the bird nest to the upright piano, students were hands-on the entire time.

This was a student-led project under the guidance of amazing Orchard teachers: Suellen Sharp (director/music), Kate Bueltmann (assistant director/drama), Darren Lauria (lights/sound), Linda Gelhausen(costumes/make-up), Dustin Klein (accompanist/music), Scott Weaver (makerspace coordinator).

Students have been working and rehearsing since October. Their big performances are this weekend. Wish them luck and enjoy the photos below that were taken during a dress rehearsal.
