The Orchard School Families Project: Pillow Family
What’s your definition of family? Although the dictionary has different definitions of family, the meaning of the word is special to the individual. The Orchard Families Project was designed as a way to build connections and celebrate the families we have in our Orchard community. The project is very simple, what does family mean to you? We asked some families to answer very simple and fun questions that explain what makes their family unique. We hope you will take the time to get to learn more about the families that make up our community. After all, we are all a part of the Orchard family!
THE PILLOW FAMILY:
The Pillow family includes Eddie and Noah. This is their first year in the Orchard community as Noah joins the sixth grade and is part of the Grillo-Klein advisory. For Noah and Eddie, family means safety, security, and encouragement. It also means having fun with a group of people who accept people for who they are regardless of the circumstances.
Some of their family traditions include grilling and cooking hearty meals on holidays and special occasions. They also enjoy spending time with grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.The Pillow family celebrates major and minor holidays including most major Christian and American holidays. They enjoy cookouts on the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. The grandparents have swimming pools, so they enjoy spending time outdoors grilling and having fun with friends and family.
Their favorite family memory is the cruise they took to Mexico last summer. They were able to snorkel, collect shells, and see some exotic animals! However, spending time together in paradise with no cell phones and having a really good time together is what was most special for them.
When asked what makes the Pillow family the Pillow family, they say their village. There are close family members, parents, siblings, and friends who help this single-parent family.
