Head of School Blog "New Video Series & Summer Check-In"

Sherri Helvie, Ph.D.
Dear Orchard Friends and Families,

Happy Summer!  I hope the last few weeks have brought you opportunities to spend time outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.  At Orchard, our students and staff have been busy with Summer Camp, and it has been wonderful to have students from preschool through middle school on campus as our planning for the fall has continued.

Our summer work includes coordination and planning amongst members of our Academic Leadership Team, which includes Assistant Head of School Nick Eble, Early Childhood and Elementary School Director Hal Schwartz, and Interim Middle School Director Angie Brothers. I hope you’ll take a moment to view the video below, which is the first in a series that gives students the opportunity to connect with me, as well as members of our faculty and staff, so that we can hear what’s on their minds as we do our ongoing work to build an excellent program.  Nick, Hal, Angie, and I have enjoyed welcoming in our students as we plan for the 2019-2020 school year.

I am also happy to announce that work is now underway for our new Makerspace!  The Fred Lorenz Makerspace, named in honor of Orchard’s legendary shop teacher, is slated to be completed in January of 2020.  We’re eager to welcome students, faculty, and families into this new teaching space that lives up to our school’s 96-year tradition of hands-on learning.  Next month’s Back-to-School Celebration on August 11th will be an opportunity to tour the construction site and see the work that’s in progress for next year.

Enjoy these last few weeks, and we look forward to seeing you next month!
