It’s not every day that people are given an opportunity to see the workspace of a professional artist, especially an artist at the level of Samuel Levi Jones, whose work is currently on display in Paris. 

 

Well, towards the end of the year, Orchard preschoolers were given this access plus much more!

Mr. Jones welcomed Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Philpott’s class into his space and showed them how he deconstructs books and other materials to create meaningful works of art about issues that are important to him. He even let the children use his sewing machine! If you're interested in seeing and learning more about Mr. Jones, check out his exhibit at the Indianapolis Museum of Art until September 2019.

 

Students returned to the classroom inspired to make works of art, inspired by Mr. Jones. After finding discarded scraps of paper in the teachers’ lounge, students designed paper collages and made paper weaving art. Finally, they decided on a title for their artwork.
