Student Life and Leadership

The Orchard School believes students thrive and succeed when they feel a sense of connectedness, efficacy, safety, and independence. It is for those reasons Orchard Middle School is committed to providing experiences beyond the classroom that foster academic, physical, emotional, and social growth.

We believe service not only makes a difference in the lives of others, but also allows our students to think critically and solve problems, teaches our students to empathize, and strengthens our community. Orchard Middle School has several “Middle School Service Days” when teachers and students travel to different locations to serve in the Indianapolis community. These service experiences support principles of Orchard’s mission: “To experience, learn and practice inclusion, equity, and social justice” as well as “Foster personal integrity and respect for self, others and the world around us.” No matter the service activity, Orchard students are always happy to lend a helping hand.

Beyond after school athletics, clubs, and classes, there are several leadership opportunities available to middle school students. Student Ambassadors represent and showcase the school by giving tours during Open House and Visit Orchard Events. Middle School Teacher Assistants volunteer in elementary and early childhood classrooms. Student focus groups meet to coordinate social events and dances. Student writing and pictures are featured in the Silvis Magister, the Orchard Middle School newsletter.
