Orchard Middle School Students Organize Meaningful MLK Assembly | Photos & Videos

Middle School teacher, Jeffrey Berry, assisted during preparation, but ultimately left every aspect of the assembly up to eighth graders who volunteered to do the work.

In order to educate every student at Orchard about Martin Luther King Jr., eighth graders researched, wrote skits, made a slide show, and prepared speeches for an all-school assembly this morning.

They even incorporated Orchard’s No Place For Hate Club, which had every member of our school community pledge to keep Orchard an inclusive, welcoming environment.

After the assembly, preschool students made a cake for Martin Luther King Jr. and sang songs about him.

Progressive education tenet: Encourage independent thought and expression, construction and application of knowledge, critical thinking, problem-solving, persistence, and collaboration.
