Orchard Student Meets the Mayor After Donating 800 Books to a Book Drive Honoring MLK Jr.

Orchard first grade student, Jackson, participated in the Mayor's Children's Book Drive in Service of Literacy, benefiting the Julian Center. The event was held to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by working for access to early literacy for all of Indianapolis' children.

In six short days, through the collective efforts of Jackson, his classmates in Stamatkin/Carter, family and friends, he was able to donate over 800 books to support the book drive. Jackson’s goal for next year is to collect over 1,000 books!

Jackson's parents want to sincerely thank the Orchard community for helping them foster a spirit of giving.

Here's what Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said about Jackson:
"I want to thank one boy in particular, Jackson. Jackson worked all week to collect books for our drive. Together with his parents, he delivered more than 800 at yesterday's event! He's a wonderful example of what hard work and a generous spirit can accomplish. Thank you, Jackson!"
